Mary was first painted circa 1525 when she was engaged to her cousin, Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor. You can see her wearing a brooch with the inscription “The Empour (the Emperor)”. During the King’s Great Matter no portraits were painted of her, and it wasn’t until 1544 that Mary appears once more. In the beginning of her reign, Mary sat for two artists, Hans Eworth and Antonis Mor. Several versions of these portraits exist, and its likeness became the basis for portraits painted long after Mary’s death. These are many of the portraits and prints I managed to find.
