The story of Chinese Empress Wu Zetian is to be made into a TV-series, produced by Christopher Newman in cooperation with Starlight Media and K. Jam Media. He also worked on the first and second seasons of Game of Thrones. It is set to begin production at the end of 2017 and will debut on screen before the end of 2018. The series will be called “Empress”.

“I am very happy to announce this partnership and am looking forward to working with this excellent creative team to bring the story of Empress Wu to a global audience,” Xu said Wednesday in a statement. Added Jam: “My partner Chris and I have already started to assemble a world-class team and are thrilled to be in business with our friends at Starlight Media. The story of the empress is a story of intrigue, history and power that provides a deep storytelling well that we hope will have numerous seasons to follow.”

The first season will consist of 13 episodes, and the budget is set at 70 million dollars. It isn’t the first telling of Wu Zetian story, though it will perhaps be the first in English.
