The Grand Ducal Court of Luxembourg has announced that Princess Alix of Luxembourg has died at the of 89 at the Château de Belœil in Belgium. The statement reads, “It is with great sadness that Their Royal Highnesses Grand Duke Jean, the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess announce the death, today, of Her Royal Highness Princess Alix, Princess de Ligne, Princess of Luxembourg. […] The funeral of Grand Duke Jean’s sister will take place at Château de Beloeil in Belgium.”
Princess Alix was the fourth daughter and sixth child of Charlotte, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg and Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma. Her elder brother Jean became Grand Duke 1964 upon the abdication of their mother. The current Grand Duke is her nephew Henri. On 17 August 1950, she married Antoine, the 13th Prince de Ligne (in the Belgian nobility) and they had seven children together. Her husband died in 2005 and her son Michel is the 14th Prince de Ligne.
A cause of death was not released. The funeral will take place at Château de Beloeil and a memorial mass will take place in Luxembourg.
