Yesterday the bodies of Nicolas II and Alexandra Feodorovna, the last emperor and empress of Russia, were exhumed to do DNA-testing on the bodies. The DNA taken will be used to confirm the identities of the last two missing children, Maria and Alexei. The two have been previously identified but subsequent DNA testing is necessary before they can be buried with the rest of their family as the Russian Orthodox Church has cast doubts over the validity of the DNA results.

The DNA testing will last approximately six weeks.
