Loch Leven Castle is set to celebrate the life of Mary, Queen of Scots and the 450th anniversary of her imprisonment there in 2017.
The Mary, Queen of Scots Festival 2017 is just one of nine events supported by a £300,000 historical fund and more is set to be revealed in the coming weeks. The festival is planned for September 2017 and will celebrate the area’s connection to Mary, Queen of Scots.
Over a third of visitors to Scotland come for its history and culture, and VisitScotland is seizing the opportunity to relive Scotland’s fascinating history.
Jim Clarkson, regional director at VisitScotland, said: “Scotland is the land where great legends were made throughout history, and so it is only apt that Mary, Queen of Scots should be included in a unique line-up of events and activities for the 2017 Year of History Heritage and Archaeology. Mary Queen of Scots is a fascinating historical icon whose reputation stretches far beyond our borders, and we look forward to welcoming visitors and locals alike.”
